RC Jet Planes
RC jet planes are enormous fun for the experienced flyer. This is a point I must emphasise, RC jet planes are only really suitable for people who have already flown model planes before and have a good level of experience. It's a hobby with a high degree of skill needed owing to the high speeds involved. However, it is definitely worth getting this experience as once you get into the hobby there is a greater level of enjoyment. You also have a huge choice of planes, from small-scale to very large scale, some are even 25% scale!
RC jet engine planes generally come with two engine types. Firstly, you have the electric ducted fan, which is the easier type to start with. This is basically a covered propeller which runs off of battery power. The second type is the turbine ducted engine, which are also known as nitroplanes. These effectively run on jet fuel, this results in a much faster jet plane, whilst also being more authentic as they sound more like the real plane.
As I said earlier, it is advisable for anyone looking to take up the hobby to have practised flying with a cheaper RC plane, probably with a propeller, so that you are used to handling an RC plane. You can get these fairly cheaply and if you crash it, it's not as bad as crashing an RC jet plane, which is generally going to cost you several times the price.
As an alternative, you could try a flight simulator. This is where you connect your RC controller to a PC, allowing you to control your RC jets on the computer monitor to get used to the controls. This way you can crash as many times as you like without it costing you any money. This is an excellent way of getting used to the controller and flying a model plane.
Once you are ready to fly RC jet planes you will experience the most exciting and thrilling flying experience. There is nothing like watching your plane flying past at 200mph, which is very possible with nitroplanes.
With this hobby there is a wide choice of planes to choose from, depending mainly on your budget. It is probably advisable to start off with a lower end RC jet plane before then graduating on to the top end which can cost several thousand dollars or more.
